Norwegian oil company Statoil has been given PSA Norway’s approval to use Deepsea Atlantic rig for drilling and completion on Gullfaks satellites.

Statoil will use the semisubmersible rig for the permanent plugback of the existing well, as well as drilling, sidetrack drilling and completion of a new well.

According to the press release issued by the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority, the operations in the Norwegian part of the North Sea are scheduled to start by December 4 at the earliest.

Deepsea Atlantic is a type MODU GVA 7500 rig operated by Odfjell Drilling AS. It is designed for operations in harsh environments and water depths up to 3000 meters (9.842 feet).
