Teekay takes delivery of ‘Arendal Spirit’ flotel

China’s Cosco yard in Nantong has delivered an offshore accommodation rig to Teekay Offshore Partners.

The news was first shared by Sevan Marine, a Norway-based company that designed the cylindrical flotel, named the ‘Arendal Spirit’.

Sevan also added that the delivery triggers the payment of $10 million to Sevan Marine within six months from the date of delivery.

The Arendal Spirit accommodation rig, Teekay’s first of the type, will soon bee on a  3-year charter contract with Brazilian oil company Petrobras. The cylinder-shaped flotel has the capacity to accommodate a crew of 490 persons.

Its sister vessel, also being built by Cosco, is slated for delivery in late-2015.
