Riserless well intervention is on the rise. This method is already well established in the North Sea, but we see a large increase in both the interest as well as the acceptance in areas such as the Gulf of Mexico. At the same time, we can expect a growing demand for medium and heavy interventions as the age of existing subsea wells increase.
The advantage of riserless light well intervention that it is able to reduce well intervention costs, by eliminating the need to use a drilling rig, and increasing the number of well interventions that can be performed.
When you look at all the changes and knowledge, it is no surprise that a slot for well intervention has been reserved for Offshore Energy 2015. In a Technical Session, organized in co-operation with branch organization Netherlands Martime Technology (NMT) and moderated by NMT Managing Director Peter Zoeteman the developments and opportunities in well intervention vessels will be discussed. One of the key speakers during this session will be Phil Bosworth, Director of Business Development & New Capability – Europe & Africa at Helix Energy Solutions – Helix Well Ops. Bosworth is a professional with over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He will highlight the capabilities, track record and future plans for each type of well intervention vessel available for use on subsea wells. Moreover, Bosworth will offer an overview on how efficiency focused units can be used for well construction tasks, all well intervention tasks, and full well plug & abandonment.
With the conference theme ‘Investing in the future of energy’ in mind, two other speakers will talk about the next generation heavy well intervention vessels. Dennis Vollmar, Product Manager Offshore at Herrenknecht vertical GmbH and Bram Lambregts, Deputy Director and Marketing and Sales Manager at Ulstein Design & Solutions B.V. will present the joined business case ‘Equipment and vessel design approach and selection criteria.’
The technical session: well intervention vessels takes place Wednesday the 14th of October between 12.30 and 14.30 hour. Check the full Conference Program on Offshore Energy 2015.
