Total CEO death spurs resignations at ‘Vnukovo’ airport

Following a tragic accident in which Total CEO Christophe de Margerie died, top managers of the ‘Vnukovo’ airport have resigned.

The official statement by the ‘Vnukovo’ airport press service reads that the resignations offered by the General Director Andrey Diakov and Deputy General Director Sergei Solntsev have been accepted.

To remind, on October 20, around midnight local time, a private plane collided with a snow removal machine at the Vnukovo Airport in Moscow.

Four people were found dead at the scene, including three crew members and Christophe de Margerie, the CEO of Total, a France based oil giant.

In a statement announcing the resignations, the ‘Vnukovo’ airport also expressed its “sincere condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, of the president of Total Christophe de Margerie and crew members of the Falcon airplane.”

Investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.

“Despite the investigative actions, Vnukovo Airport is operating normally and is doing everything possible for a comfortable service for passengers and airlines,” the statement by the airport read.

Driver arrested

The driver of the snow plow involved in the incident was arrested by the Russian Authorities, who claim he was drunk at the time of the accident. According to Ria Novosti, the driver, Vladimir Martynenko (photo below), denied these allegations during an interrogation on Tuesday.
