The rig will now mobilise to Vietnam where it will begin its four wells contract with Petrovietnam. The other rig, also being built at the same yard, UMW NAGA 7 is scheduled to be delivered in December 2014.

The contract for the Naga 6 rig, expected to take 250 days to be completed, is valued around $46.5 million. Petrovitenam has an option to extend the contract with three more wells, which would take 55 days to be completed.

UMW Naga 6 was built by China Merchants Industry Holdings Co. Ltd, at the shipyard located in Shenzen, Mazhou Island, China.

The rig is an independent-leg cantilever jack-up rig that has a drilling depth capability of 30,000 feet and has a rated operating water depth of 375 feet.

President of UMW-OG, Rohaizad Darus said:“The delivery of UMW NAGA 6 will provide us with an additional asset to further accelerate our growth and facilitate the execution of our three-pronged marketing strategy which is to increase the number of international clients, to penetrate more countries in Asia Pacific and Middle East, and to follow existing clients in their overseas operations. For example, in addition to UMW NAGA 6 servicing Petronas Carigali in their Vietnam operation, UMW NAGA 5 and UMW GAIT 6 are currently servicing PTTEP Thailand in their Myanmar operation.”
