VIDEO: Time-lapse of Gina Krog load out in South Korea

The main support frame for the Gina Krog topside has been loaded on to the heavy transport vessel Mega Caravan in South Korea.

Statoil, the operator of the Gina Krog field located in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, shared a time-lapse video of the main support frame for Gina Krog’s topside being loaded out in Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering’s shipyard.

The South Korean shipyard was awarded a contract to build the topsides for the Gina Krog field platform (previously known as Dagny) in February 2013. According to the contract, the topside is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2017.

Statoil said that, along with the process module and the utility module, the 10,000 ton heavy main support frame will soon sail from South Korea to the North Sea in Norway.

The Gina Krog field is located 30 kilometers northwest of the Sleipner field and around 250 kilometers southwest of Stavanger, Norway. The development has an estimated 225 million barrels of oil and gas.

The plan is to develop Gina Krog with a platform resting on the seabed, while the wells will be drilled with a mobile jack-up drilling rig. The liquid will be transported via a tanker, and the gas via the Sleipner field.

As far as the platform jacket is concerned, Heerema Fabrication Group completed the construction of the Gina Krog field jacket in June last year, and the jacket was lowered into the sea in July the same year.

Statoil has 58.7% interest in the field, while its partners Total E&P Norge, PGNiG Upstream International and Det norske have 30%, 8% and 3.3%, respectively.
