Viking Supply Ships shuts down Canadian office

Citing deteriorated market conditions within the oil and gas industry, the supply shipping company Viking Supply Ships said it will close down its office in Newfoundland, Canada.

The shipping company said the office would be closed as of April 28, 2016, as a measure to further strengthen the focus on cost efficiency within the company.

“Viking Supply Ships A/S still considers Newfoundland and Eastern-Canada to be of strategic importance going forward and in the future, commercial activities towards the region will be followed up closely by dedicated personnel from the company’s Headquarter in Copenhagen and the chartering division in the Kristiansand office,” Viking Supply Ships said on Wednesday.

This is not the first office the Swedish shipping company is closing as it shut down its Aberdeen office back in February 2015 stating the same reasons.

Additionally, after multiple episodes of vessel stacking, the company’s whole PSV fleet was eventually stacked in March 2016. The company owns a fleet of five PSV vessels, two of which were stacked in 2016, while the other three were laid up in September 2015.

Hoping to reduce its yearly operational costs, the company also laid up the AHTS vessel Odin Viking in November 2015.
