Vroon’s newbuild subsea support vessel named in Amsterdam

Dutch provider of offshore support vessels, Vroon Offshore Services, has named the newest addition to its fleet in a ceremony held on Thursday, July 20.

The vessel was named the VOS Start at Damen Shiprepair in Amsterdam by Tracie Moyes from the vessel’s first charterer MHI Vestas Offshore.

VOS Start, Vroon’s first subsea-support walk-to-work vessel, was purpose built to support offshore operations in the renewable industry and walk-to-work projects in the oil & gas industry. The vessel is equipped with a Bargemaster next-generation, motion-compensated gangway system, and an active heave-compensated crane.

The VOS Start offers accommodation for the client teams, office space for engineering and project managers, a warehouse to store materials and tools and an onboard workshop to prepare for day-to-day tasks.

In addition to logistic and technical requirements, the vessel is equipped with a cinema, gym, and Wi-Fi connection.

According to the vessel owner, VOS Start will be delivered to MHI Vestas Offshore Wind in August, at the start of its first charter. The vessel will provide offshore logistics support, accommodation and walk-to-work services during construction of the Walney Extension Offshore Wind Farm in the Irish Sea.

In addition to the offshore wind farms support work, the VOS support vessels were also designed for maintenance and operations projects in the offshore oil & gas industry.

Vroon added that VOS Start’s sister vessel, VOS Stone, would be delivered by Fujian Southeast Shipbuilding in China next week.
