Wintershall chooses AGR for Barents Sea feasibility study

Oilfield services company AGR has been chosen by German oil company Wintershall to deliver a feasibility study in the Barents Sea.

AGR said on Thursday that the award was given by Wintershall’s Norwegian entity, Wintershall Norge. Under the contract, the company’s Well Engineering team will evaluate well design solutions for the Barents Sea.

The contract will see AGR monitor and identify the optimum design, drilling, and testing techniques required to carry out efficient exploration activity. The study also includes the evaluation of emergency preparedness and risk management.

Tore Øian, VP of Well Management Norway at AGR, said: “We’re very pleased to be continuing to support Wintershall in delivering work that promises to ensure efficient exploration with strong HSEQ results.”

AGR added that it has already developed significant operational experience in the Barents Sea and the Arctic in delivering well design engineering and pressure control management projects.

This marks AGR’s third contract with Wintershall in the last couple of months.

Namely, Wintershall signed a deal last month for the use of AGR’s well data management and analysis software tool iQx on its Maria field while the deal for technical manpower which would support Wintershall’s onshore and offshore teams was signed in December 2016.
