Worldwide offshore rig count drops to 221 in June

Baker Hughes, as of recently GE company, announced today that worldwide offshore rig count for June 2017, fell to 221 active units, down from 244 in the same period a year ago.

 

The international offshore rig count for June 2017 was 197, down 5 from the 202 counted in May 2017, and down 26 from the 223 counted in June 2016.

Worth noting, the international offshore rig count excludes the U.S. and Canada, which are grouped under the separate, North America, category.

The U.S. had 22 active offshore rigs in June, up by one unit compared to the same month in 2016. Canada’s had two active offshore rigs in June this year, up from no active offshore rigs in June 2016.

The region with most active offshore rigs in June was Asia Pacific with 75 units, followed by the Middle East with 42, Latin America 34. Europe 32, North America 24, and Africa 14.

 

The international rig count for June 2017, both onshore and offshore, was 960, up 3 from the 957 counted in May 2017, and up 33 from the 927 counted in June 2016.

The average U.S. rig count for June 2017 was 931, up 38 from the 893 counted in May 2017, and up 514 from the 417 counted in June 2016. The average Canadian rig count for June 2017 was 150, up 65 from the 85 counted in May 2017, and up 87 from the 63 counted in June 2016.

The worldwide rig count for June 2017 was 2,041, up 106 from the 1,935 counted in May 2017, and up 634 from the 1,407 counted in June.
