Worldwide offshore rig count rises in February

Baker Hughes Incorporated announced today that the worldwide offshore rig count for February 2015 rose to 379 active units. The number rose up from January this year, which had 370 rigs, and February 2014, with 374.

The rig data provider separates the rigs into two groups, North America (U.S. and Canada) and International (rest of the world).

The U.S. Offshore rigs fell to 52 in February this year, versus 53 in January 2015 and 55 in February 2014. Canada had three active offshore rigs last month, the same as the month before, but two more versus February 2014, when only one offshore rig was active.

The international offshore rig count for February 2015 was 324, up 10 from the 314 counted in January 2015, and up 6 from the 318 counted in February 2014.

Within the international rig count section, Europe recorded the biggest hike, having 56 active rigs in February 2015, up from 45 in January 2015, and 41 in February last year.
