ZZT to provide subsea cables for Saudi Aramco offshore projects

ZTT Group, Chinese manufacturer of cable systems, has received a contract from Emas Chiyoda and Italian company Saipem for three projects with oil giant Saudi Aramco worth $30 million.

ZTT said that its 33kV and 15 kV cables would be installed at Saudi Aramco’s Hasbah II, Marjan & Zuluf, and Safaniya projects.

To clarify, the Hasbah II project is being developed by a consortium of Larsen & Toubro and Emas Chiyoda while the Marjan & Zuluf, and Safaniya projects are being worked on by Saipem.

Namely, India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T), in consortium with Emas Chiyoda Subsea, won an EPCI contract valued at over $1.6 billion from Saudi Aramco for the development of the second phase of Hasbah offshore gas field in the summer of 2016.

The consortium will be carrying out EPCI work on the offshore plant which includes two streams of three wellhead platform topsides, one tie-in platform with flare platforms and bridges tied together by 20 km umbilicals and 25 km of in-field pipelines.

Italian oilfield services provider Saipem won a $1 billion deal in November 2016 for EPCI work on the development of the Marjan & Zuluf, and Safaniya fields in the Arabian Gulf.

The contracts include the design, EPCI work, and implementation of subsea systems in addition to the laying of pipelines, subsea cables and umbilicals, platform decks and jackets. The contracts also include additional maintenance and dismantling work on the existing platforms already operating in the fields.

According to ZTT, Saudi Aramco, the state-owned oil company of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has ordered over $100 million worth of subsea cables from the company to date.

The company added that, not counting this latest award, it had received $87.7 million worth of contracts for the provision of subsea equipment since November 2016, including a $26.7 million contract with German company Tennet which marked the first entry into the European high-end subsea cable market for the Chinese company.
